“We are alive for the first time, we are alive for the last time.” Modest Mouse
More about Helen Livingston, Director of Possibilities:
Remember when you were a kid and you blew on a dandelion? What did you wish for??
I wished that I could be a RadGal* when I grew up. I am living that wish. (*Radgal: a girl or woman who departs from the usual or traditional.)
I have always departed from the usual and traditional and I would not live my life any other way. My vision for starting RadGal Adventures was to share the feelings I experienced when I went out surfing for the first time. I was terrified of the ocean. I was not a strong swimmer. I was shaking but I dove in. I felt so alive surfing. I was facing my fears and dealing with the oceans impermanence and ever changing ways. I was ge tting knocked down hard but I was getting back up again. Surfing made me feel like I was five years old and I was racing down a snowy hill on a sled, screaming with glee all the way down.. We lose that feeling of glee when we grow up but we don‘t have to.
After that day in the Pacific Ocean, I knew that whatever challenges came my way I was capable of facing them. I wanted to share this experience with everyone especially other women.
I think it is important for us to step out on the edge and leave our routines and comforts behind. We need to challenge ourselves everyday to live without limits, to love life, to jump off that cliff and know that we will soar…
When will you do those things you always wanted to do? …When you have enough money? When the kids are older? When you have more time? When … exactly when?? WHY NOT NOW ???
At Radgal Adventures, women of all ages and abilities come together and support each other. Perhaps you want to try a new sport but you feel intimidated, or you feel out of shape, or you think that you could never do that but you know deep down you want to try it. On our adventures we will believe in you when that doubt creeps in. We laugh at our mistakes and shout out loud when we get something right.
We encourage you to be who you are because we know that in all of us there is a RadGal waiting to blossom!
"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." -Anais Nin
